Research reveals how a single word makes all the difference. A word changes the meaning, the mood and the motivation. The language used to market to our primal brain will often be the most direct, simple and visually arresting words.

For Simmons, the silkscreening medium offers a critical opportunity to experiment with graphic forms and visually explore the concept of onomatopoeia (the use or creation of a word that phonetically resembles the sound it describes). Her typography-focused artwork concisely plays with the boundaries of power, commercialization, fantasy and propriety, provoking tensions that challenge the viewer to confront his or her own definitions and interpretations of language.
